WriteAway is an online writing support service for undergraduate students. Submit up to three drafts of your paper to WriteAway, and online tutors will provide strategies and resources to help you improve your writing.
WriteAway will be open for the January-April term from Monday, January 15 to Friday April 9
PLEASE NOTE: Tutors try to respond to papers within 48 hours. Response times may be longer than 48 hours during peak times. Please seek writing assistance well in advance of your deadlines.
Create an Account
TheWriteAway service is supported by a platform called eTutoring. If you are currently a student at one of the participating institutions, you may create an eTutoring account to use WriteAway. To create an account, click on the “Need an Account?” link in the blue box to the left. The following information is required to have an account with the eTutoring system:
Institutional email address
*To minimize risk of inappropriate use of personal information, we recommend that you do not use the same username and password as used for other accounts.
Enter your information and read and accept the WriteAway Terms and Conditions by checking the "I agree to all terms and conditions" box at the bottom of the page. You are now ready to start!
You Already Have a WriteAway Account?
If you’ve used WriteAway in the past, there’s no need to create a new account. If you can’t remember your previous password, please click on the “Forgot your Password?” link in the blue box to the left.
WriteAway is a free service for students at participating institutions.
WriteAway tutors will assist by providing feedback on undergraduate-level draft course-related writing assignments. WriteAway tutors will NOT assist with:
Graduate-level writing or graduate school applications
Take home exams
Group-written assignments (unless submitting only the portion you yourself have written)
Cover letters or resumes (unless written for a course assignment)
Please be aware that if you submit a draft assignment that is longer than 8 pages, tutors will not necessarily respond to all elements of your writing assignment in the first draft. You may submit up to 3 drafts of any paper.
As a WriteAway user you have a responsibility to:
Submit only course-related draft assignments that fit the above criteria
Explain what type of writing help you are looking for (clarity of thesis, structure, organization, etc.)
Take an active role in the revision process and follow through on tutors' feedback before submitting a second or third draft
Submit only your own writing
Follow all rules and regulations of your institution, including codes of conduct, plagiarism policies, and copyright laws

WriteAway is a collaboration by BC post-secondary institutions working together to create an online writing support service for students. WriteAway is open to a limited number of students at the following institutions: British Columbia Institute of Technology, Camosun College, College of the Rockies, Douglas College, Kwantlen Polytechnic University, Langara College, North Island College, Northern Lakes College (Alberta), Northwest Community College, Selkirk College, Simon Fraser University, Thompson Rivers University, Trinity Western University, the University of British Columbia, the University of the Fraser Valley, and Vancouver Community College.
If you submit a paper for tutoring assistance, a tutor from any of these institutions may assist you. When you create an account to use the WriteAway service, you will be asked to read and accept the WriteAway Terms and Conditions.
